International Centre of Proctology and Minimally-Invasive Surgery

It is a Surgical Unit dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of proctological, gastrointestinal and pelvic floor disorders. The Center is
also an international benchmark for the treatment of anal fistulas and pilonidal sinus with minimally-invasive video-assisted techniques, that is to say VAAFT and EPSiT. The inventor of these surgical procedures is Dr. Piercarlo Meinero, director of the Centre.

The close cooperation with our Urologist, Gynecologist and Physiatrist, allows to study and treat the pelvic floor dysfunctions in a multidisciplinary mode. Very often, during the proctological examination, some problems related to the anterior pelvic district, emerge such as urinary disorders and incontinence, disorders of the sexual sphere , uterine and bladder prolapses, descent of the pelvic floor...
In this regard, the presence in the Clinic of high-level professional figures, has made easy to form a specialized group dedicated to the pelvis disorders, especially female. The close collaboration between Proctologist, Urologist and Gynecologist, allows a correct patient's assessment from a multidisciplinary point of view. It allows to study together multi- compartmental disorders with sophisticated diagnostic tools, and finally do combined surgical treatments. This approach guarantees to the patient an adequate diagnostic and therapeutic path according to the most modern scientific and technological concepts.

 The Center is home to professional training. Every year, many Surgeons from all over the world enter our operative rooms to learn our minimally-invasive techniques, especially VAAFT and EPSiT procedures.

Our Team

Piercarlo Meinero M.D. - The Centre Director

Specialist in Emergency Surgery and perfected in Colorectal Surgery. Consultant at the EOC Hospital in Mendrisio (Switzerland) and at the S. Camillo Clinics in Milan, Nuova Villa Claudia in Rome and Villa Rizzo Clinic in Syracuse. Inventor of VAAFT and EPSiT surgical techniques. Former head of the Proctology Department at the "Asl 4 Chiavarese" from 2001 to 2015. Lecturer at the University "Sapienza" of Rome from 2016 to 2021 at the Master of Enterostomal Therapy. Director of the Advanced Proctology Courses at the IRCAD in Strasbourg. Consultant for the Karl Storz Company (Germany). Responsible for the International Training of the School of Proctology and Pelvic Floor of SIC (Italian Society of Surgery. Member of SICCR (Italian Society of Colonproctology). Member of SIC (Italian Society of Surgery). He lives with his family in Chiavari (Italy). Spoken languages: English and Franch.

Paolo Caregnato M.D. - Dr. Meinero's Assistant

Paolo Caregnato MD is Specialist in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Meinero's Assistant. Organization Manager of our International Centre. Until 2017 Consultant Plastic Surgeon, Head of the Laser Center and Health Director at the Clinic Villa Maris in Genoa. Since 2017 Consultant Surgeon at the Clinics San Camillo in Milan, Nuova Villa Claudia in Rome and Montallegro in Genoa. He lives in Genoa. Spoken languages: English and French.

Luca Cevasco M.D. (Anesthesiologist) 

Luca Cevasco MD is Specialist in Anesthesia and Intensive Care. Professional training at the Hospital Santa Tecla San Paolo in Tarragona (Spain). Until 2018 Anesthesiologist at the Regional "San Martino" Hospita in Genoa. Professor of podiatry at the University of Genoa. He lives with his family in Genoa. Spoken languages: English, Spanish and French.

Marco Estienne M.D. (Radiologist)

Dr. Marco Estienne is Specialist in Diagnostic Radiology and Oncology. Former Head of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging in Emergency at ASL 4 Chiavarese. Master in MRI, CTscan, Pelvis-perineography, Virtual Colonoscopy, Transrectal ultrasound and anorectal manometry. Faculty in International VAAFT and EPSiT courses. Spoken languages: English and French.

Paolo Massa M.D. (Gastroenterologist-Endoscopist)

Dr. Paolo Massa is Specialist in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy. He directed the  Gastroenterology  Dept. at the Galliera Hospital in Genoa. Former Consultant at the Canadian Embassy for the Italian Cancer League. Professor at the Department of Health Sciences of the University of Genoa. He lives with his family in Genoa. Spoken languages: English and French.
